Get Fit This Year
9 tips to get you in shape this year.
- Make it a Priority
Make a commitment to get moving for improved physical and mental health. What better time to start than the New Year. - Set Goals
Set short-term and long-term goals for yourself. Your short-term goal could be to start exercising 30 minutes 3-4 times a week. Your long-term goal could be to lose weight or lower your cholesterol. - Don’t Overdo It
Start off slow. Starting off too fast can quickly lead to exercise burnout. Set achievable goals for yourself. - Ditch The All-Or-Nothing Attitude
It’s okay if you miss a day of exercise just make sure you get back on track the next day. Set realistic goals and realize some weeks you will meet your goal and other weeks you won’t. Keep on moving and you will be improving your health, your well-being, and your attitude. - Be Efficient
Make sure you are working out at a good intensity for you. Find out your target heart rate range and aim for the upper end of it. You should be breaking a sweat. The higher the intensity level the more calories you are burning per minute. However, you don’t want to work out so hard that you can only exercise for a short time. Aim for 30-45 minutes of exercise. - Mark It In Your Planner
Schedule your workouts in your planner like a business meeting. It is easy to get busy with other things and to blow off your workouts. If you set appointments in your planner you are more likely to sick to it. - Mix It Up
Be adventurous! Try new forms of exercise and different pieces of fitness equipment to keep your workouts interesting and fun! - Do It At Home
8. If you can’t make it to the gym, that’s no excuse! Buy an exercise video and a pair of dumbbells. - Get An Exercise Buddy!
It always helps to exercise with a friend that will help keep you motivated.
